The Great Houston High School Figure Skating Team is a skater-run organization registered as a high school team as part of the USFS High School Skating program. The team was founded in 2023 and represents the Skating Club of Houston as well as multiple high schools in the Greater Houston region. We compete in both local and national competitions throughout the season, as well as hosting a multitude of social events and fundraisers for our team members. Starting from just three people, the team has expanded to 17 members. Since our formation three years ago, we have consistently performed with excellency, notably winning 2nd and 3rd in team sweepstakes at the 2024 and 2025 Midwestern/Pacific Coast Sectional High School Finals respectively, the biggest high school skating competition in the nation, and are aiming to place top three again at the 2026 sectionals.
As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, our mission is to support young athletes and expand access to figure skating opportunities across the Houston area. In just three years, our team has supported 20 different individual high school skaters and provided them with chances to compete in high school skating, which for many was their first official competition experience. As of the 2026 season, we plan to bring nine new skaters to the annual Midwestern/Pacific Coast Sectional High School Finals, giving them their first but hopefully not last taste of national competition.
